To keep the Universal Motion Screen functioning properly, sidetracks should be kept clean and lubricated with a dry silicone spray (CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Spray or Super Tech Silicone Lubricant can be used and are found at most major automotive care retailers). This is often the solution to minor operational issues involving the raising and lowering of the shade.

The screen fabric is made of a vinyl coated polyester yarn designed for exterior use. White Microban is incorporated into the fabric, it does not prevent the visual accumulation of dirt and debris. Windex Pro Outdoor Products are recommended for cleaning. Simply attach the bottle to a garden hose and follow the directions provided on the cleaning product label.

Universal Screens Clear Vinyl Shades are a beautiful way to enclose a space and require regular cleaning to maintain clarity and shine. 303 Protectant is recommended in caring for vinyl shades. The cleaner is worked into the vinyl, leaving a hazy film. Simply polish the film off with a microfiber towel. This will enable the unit to operate smoothly and the vinyl to remain clear and polished.
- These shades are made to be used - even when they are left down all of the time. Operate the shade or shades 1 to 2 times a week to make sure they are operating correctly before you might need to use them for something important.
- Spray vinyl inserts inside of side tracks 6-7 times a year or if you see the shade operate irregularly.
Cold Weather Use And Care Guide
Limit operations in temperatures below 45°F
Your motorized screen is designed for year-round use in the fully deployed position. However, when temperatures are below 45 degrees, we recommend lowering the system before temperatures drop below 50 degrees to maintain panel stability and prevent vinyl from contracting or cracking.
Management during cold weather
If the vinyl systems are already in place and temperatures drop below 45°F, keep them down unless severe weather or winds over 20 to 25 mph are forecasted. It is advisable to retract the systems before a storm and redeploy them afterward.
Do not deploy the vinyl window system during freezing rain or windy weather.
Tips for narrow or tall screens
Screens that are less than 8 feet wide or more than 12 feet may be more susceptible to cold temperatures and, therefore, may require manual assistance to deploy.
Dealing with ice and freezing conditions
During sleet, hail, or rain followed by freezing conditions, the weight bar felt might freeze to the ground. Wait until it thaws before attempting to raise the screen to prevent damage.
Warranty and temperature constraints
The manufacturer’s warranty does NOT cover issues such as vinyl screen shrinkage, clear-on-clear weld failure, decolorization, scratches, damage caused by cold temperatures, or physical damage. For more policies and limitations, contact your dealer.
